This is a description of a difficult traverse completed in 13 hours, car-to-car by Jaron Ivanisko in July 2026. Starting at the Woodbury trailhead, he passed the Woodbury Hut and climbed Glacier View Peak and Kane Peak. Difficulty: Extreme. Difficult route finding, Extended climbing to 5.6.

Grade and length: 5.6? Expect a long 12-hour-or-more day if done car-to-car. The Author did it in a smidge over 13 hours, moving quite fast. An educated but not tracked guess at the total stats is something like 25 km of distance, and +/- 2200m of vert, with the 5km or so of Ridgeline taking half the total time at least.
Start and finish Location: Woodbury Cabin Trail Parking
Description: Hike the Woodbury cabin trail to its end at the cabin, before continuing through meadows and boulders to a small lake. From the lake, proceed up a moderate gully to reach an obvious col and the start of the Sawtooth Ridge. From here, climb the ridge heading SE towards Glacier View Peak. Proceed up, over, and down many towers, which can often be bypassed on the NE side but are more enjoyable on the true ridgecrest (4th with occasional low to mid 5th). Eventually reach a downclimb off a tower that seems utterly improbable, but can be bypassed on the NE side onto snow or glacier, bypassing this tower to a gully, to gain the ridge again. Climb up and over a large tower to finally climb up Glacier View’s 1st peak and its spectacular framed picture summit (no summit log as of July 2026). Optionally, tag the other Glacier View summit, which may be slightly higher (also no summit log as of July 2026) before returning to the previous summit plateau.
From here, continue SE on the ridge towards Kane Peak. The ridge drops, and precipitous towers can be bypassed on the SW side easily using gullies and ledges with a tad more loose rock than prior. Eventually reach a tower which juts up more prominently and is approximately midway between Glacier View and Kane. Climb up and over this tower and others past it, encountering many steep “slot notches” which are nearly vertical on either side and require more technical climbing to pass through. Often the slot notches and towers are bypassed on either side of the ridge crest. One slot notch in particular is quite challenging with a very steep and exposed downclimb using positive horizontal ledges into the notch followed by a steep corner back out, both being 5.6 or 5.7. One final section of gendarmes guards the summit ridge of Kane but can be bypassed on the NE side by downclimbing a corner onto a ledge (5.6 or 5.7 moves as well). Traverse the ledge into one final slot notch and appreciate the seemingly unlikely fact that somehow there was a way through every slot notch without requiring a rappel! From here, a steep but loose wall can be climbed at 5.7 or bypassed on the SW side. One final slot notch is easily bypassed on the SW, and the summit of Kane is reached. The 2nd highest peak in Kokanee at 2805m, and one that sees very few summits. A summit log in good shape and an entire skateboard are present.
From here, descend snow slopes to the NE, which may be bare rock and a pocket glacier in later-season conditions. Below this, multiple options for bushwacking back to the Woodbury trail exist, on the way crossing Woodbury Creek by many possible log bridges.
