REDFISH / LAIRD CREEK PEAKS

These are two unnamed peaks at the head of Redfish and Laird Creeks along a ridge south of Gray’s Peak. They form the southern boundary of Kokanee Glacier Park. The highest peak is 2371 m (7777 ft).

Difficulty: C3 difficult
Season: late June to early October

Drive. From Highway 3A near Balfour, go towards Nelson and turn onto Beggs Road
0.0 Beggs Road
1.4 km. Turns into Redfish Forest Service Road, crossing Laird Creek.
3.0 km. Fork right at the Redfish Research Area. As the road climbs, 4WD high clearance is recommended. Stay on the main road at all intersections.
|11.0 km. Fork right, ignoring the sign for Ross Lake.
11.1 km. Fork left, ignoring the signed Redfish FSR East. The road narrows and ascends rough switchbacks and 4WD high clearance is necessary.
15.2km. Head up to turn around and park in a pullout.

Route: Start with a steep bushwhack from the end of the Redfish Creek FSR and then a rock scramble to the peak. Traverse along the narrow ridge for about a kilometre to the east, and descend to the meadows at the head of Laird Creek, from where the Haiseldean Lake trail leads back to the starting point.
Follow a rock bluff above Haiseldean Lake SW to the top of a ridge. Descend 300 m over .5 km to the creek that is crossed three times. Join a wide ATV track through the forest that meets the Redfish FSR and your vehicle.

I would like to think of myself as a full time traveler. I have been retired since 2006 and in that time have traveled every winter for four to seven months. The months that I am "home", are often also spent on the road, hiking or kayaking. I hope to present a website that describes my travel along with my hiking and sea kayaking experiences.
