WRAGGE CREEK TRAIL

This 5-km-long overgrown road ascends to Wragge Lake.

Difficulty:
Elevation gained:
Key Elevations:
Distance: 5km
Time:
Season: Mid-June to October
Map: 82F/4 Nakusp, 82K/3

Drive: On Highway 6 just south of Hills (northwest of Rosebery) turn west on Bonanza Road (km 0.0).
1.0km Cross bridge, turn right (sign). The Left goes down to the north end of Slocan Lake.
3.9km Go left to Wragge Beach on Slocan Lake and the Wragge Beach Recreation Site with several campsites. Fees. Can also access Wragge Creek Trail and Lake.

Route/Trail: Off the Wragge Creek road, instead of going down to Slocan Lake, park where the bridge has been removed. The old overgrown road leads to Wragge Lake on switchbacks up to the east. If the road is neglected the trail has become completely overgrown with alders, to the point of crawling at some points. Early in the season, the two creek crossings can be knee-height and the trail flooded near the lake.
The road was completely brushed out in 2025 and quite pleasant. Motorbikes and ATVs share the trail with fishermen hiking into the picturesque lake that holds plenty of small trout. Contrary to the Backroads Mapbook, there is no cabin at the lake.

I would like to think of myself as a full time traveler. I have been retired since 2006 and in that time have traveled every winter for four to seven months. The months that I am "home", are often also spent on the road, hiking or kayaking. I hope to present a website that describes my travel along with my hiking and sea kayaking experiences.
