BUTTER TRAILS

These are two connected mountain bike trails on the side of Nakusp Ridge north of Roseberry. The West Wilson Creek FSR provides access to the Upper Butter trailhead and a connector road connects the Upper and Lower parts.
Both are hand-built single-track flow trails fun for all abilities. Shuttle or bike up the logging road for a 2-3 hour round trip.

UPPER BUTTER TRAIL
The upper half of this trail network is easily accessed by a logging road. It follows the ridge line down giving panoramic views.
Location: Above and east of Roseberry and Slocan Lake. Valhalla Provincial Park is across the lake.
Difficulty: Easy A1
Elevation Gain: +67m climb, -372m descent
Key Elevations: Highest elevation 1,035m
Distance: 3.7kms
Time: 1 hour one way
Season: June through October
Access: Mediocre 4WD or AWD high clearance gravel forest service road with steep, loose sections.

Drive: Drive north on Highway 6 from New Denver. Just after crossing the Wilson Creek bridge in Roseberry, turn right on the West Wilson Creek FSR. It follows the south boundary of Roseberry Provincial Park. Take the first acute switchback to the left. From here the road climbs 7.7 km and climbs 851m (-102m) to follow the east side of the ridge high above Roseberry. Park at the first shuttle parking area where the trail and road meet.
Route/Trail: The upper trail follows the ridge line for 3.7 km to meet the connector road. Turn right onto the road. Follow it for 1.1 km. It climbs 32m and descends 31 m in total. At the end turn left onto the Lower Butter Trail.  

LOWER BUTTER TRAIL
The lower half of a mountain bike trail network, Lower Butter can be either an out-and-back hiking trail or done as a continuation of the Upper Butter Trail accessed by logging road.  
Location: North of Roseberry descending the side of Nakusp Ridge ending in Roseberry Provincial Park.
Difficulty: Easy A1
Elevation Gain: +74m, -520 descent 1456’
Distance: 3.75kms
Time: 1 hour
Season: May through October
Access: Out and back

Drive: From New Denver, drive north on Highway 6. Just after crossing the Wilson Creek Bridge, turn right onto West Wilson Creek FSR. Park at Roseberry Provincial Park and start on the trail.

Trail: Ascend steadily on a single-track mountain bike trail through a large treed forest. Some steeper bits and some avoidable stunts. At 3.75 km, meet the connector road coming from the right and Upper Butter Trail. Turn around and return the way you came.
