ROAD ACCESS – Washington / Northern Idaho

SULLIVAN LAKE-SALMO MT: 106 km. from Nelson to Sullivan Lk.; take #22 up Sullivan Crk.; Pass Crk. Pass jct. at 10 km., continue straight on #2220; pass Gypsy Meadows; at 30 km. turn L. onto #270 which takes you to top of Salmo Mtn. in 3-4 km.; could use 4WD near end; #2220 ends at trailhead for Snowy Top, 9 mi. away.

FOR GYPSY PEAK: take County Road #2220 and continue straight from Sullivan Lake campground; at km. 11.6 turn up & L onto #2212; at km. 19, turn R onto signed #200; follow this to road end at km. 29.6; here is a campsite (no water) and trailhead for trail #515; 1 1/4 hours’ drive from Sullivan Lake; elevation 5600′; 2WD good roadbed

JOHNS CREEK ROAD: drive on #22 east from East Sullivan Lake campground; at km. 4.4, turn right or south onto unsigned Johns Creek road; immediately after turning off, you cross Sullivan Creek on a cement bridge; 2WD all the way to trailhead at mile 7.3; after 8/15 road is gated at about mile 3-4; ridden from bridge almost to top of Hall Mtn. in 10/02 (2 hrs. 40 min., including portion on foot)

PASS CREEK ROAD:  turn R. 10 km. from Sullivan Lake on #22; it’s 42 km. to pass from Sullivan Lk.; road becomes #302 on E. side of pass; about 20 km. down to Granite Pass; this gives good access to W side of Priest Lake

FLUME CREEK TRAIL ROAD: at Metaline, turn W. onto #2975 (signed Boundary Rd./Crawford State Park); drive 5.8 km. north on pavement to FR #350 (not signed); re-set odometer; turn left onto this dirt road past abandoned buildings, into a meadow, and along a powerline; keep left at km. 2 (#353 goes R); keep right at km. 2.1 (#352 goes L); continue thorugh endless switchbacks on very low grades to a trailhead sign at km. 11.8 (Flume Crk. Tr. #502); 2WD high clearance; road continues at right angles past trailhead turnoff; took 40 min. to drive down to pavement

PYRAMID PASS ROAD: leave Idaho #57 at Dickensheet Junction and follow #312 through Big Meadows and Squaw Valley right to pass; road becomes rougher and switches back a lot; 27 km. from jct. to pass; spur N. of pass is #306, leading to North Baldy; follow #12 down Mill Creek from pass to SH 9325 on E. bank of Pend Oreille R. (17 km.).
