BALANCING ROCK TRAIL

This overlook has great views of the Creston Valley. Part of the Creston Mountain Trail Network, it can be extended.

Difficulty: A1 easy
Distance: 3.6 km round trip
Elevation: +222 m
Season: mid-April to early November

Drive. From Highway 3, turn onto West Creston Road (signed for the Creston Valley Wildlife Area) and quickly reach the signed trailhead in a pullout on the right.

Trail. Climb to below a power line and then a bench at 1.1 km. Ascend through open forest to the ‘Balancing Rock’ at 1.3km. It’s a massive erratic boulder, perched on the bedrock. Continue over a hill through a dense forest and a boardwalk to a 3-way junction, the end of the trail.
If desired, continue on to a higher viewpoint on the Mount Creston Trail (4.3km round-trip and +400 m gain from the junction) or descend on the Fern Forest Trail to Highway 3 (1.8km and -180 m down from the junction)

I would like to think of myself as a full time traveler. I have been retired since 2006 and in that time have traveled every winter for four to seven months. The months that I am "home", are often also spent on the road, hiking or kayaking. I hope to present a website that describes my travel along with my hiking and sea kayaking experiences.
