This is an interesting route into McKean Lakes. It doesn’t sound faster than the trail.
Drive: Hoder Creek FSR è Drinnon/Gwillim lakes TH 21.3km. This junction is 20.3km from Slocan City and 25.2km from Passmore.
0.0 Start SW on Hoder Creek FSR
6.0km Continue straight. Gasca FSR to right and Mt Rinda.
6.5km and 10.3km Bear right.
10.6km Bear right and descend. Notice the huge cedar just before the granite wall.
18.5km Stay left. Do not ascend right.
18.8km Go left up the east side of Hoder Creek. Right goes to Drinnon Lake TH in 3kms. Fairly new trappers cabin at the left side of the junction.
Park before the washed-out bridge (I assume this bridge is the true Hoder Creek comes out of Bunny Lake almost 2kms from Hoder Ck)
Route: walk up the rough and gnarly road for about 5 km or an hour. A line of rocks across the road and flagging on the right indicate the start of the trail, that goes straight up into the alpine about 800 feet below McKean Pass next to Mount McKean. The flagging and marked trail ends at the alpine so it might be difficult to find if coming the other way.
