LONDON RIDGE

London Ridge is the ridge coming off to the SW of Whitewater Mountain. It has great wildflowers and larch colour in season.

Difficulty: B2
Elevation gain: 1600′
Key elevations: Park 5800′; High point of ridge 7386′
Distance:
Time: 4-5 hours
Season: Mid-July to mid-August for flowers. Mid-September to early October for larch.
Map: 82K/3 Roseberry

Drive: From New Denver, turn up Kane Creek Road just before Three Forks and the Sandon turn. Drive up the main road and turn right up a long, over-grown road with many switchbacks as far as possible. It ends at the McAllister Mine site at 5800′.
Can continue up the road north up Kane Creek. A trail leaves the road at 3570′ to the left (NW) and goes to Marten Mt and Alps Alturas.

Route: Walk east up to the saddle on the ridge and continue northeastward, hiking over a number of humps. In season, the flowers are very good. In the fall, the larch produces a stunning show. From the saddle, can walk SW out to the end of the ridge toward the weather station.

About admin

I would like to think of myself as a full time traveler. I have been retired since 2006 and in that time have traveled every winter for four to seven months. The months that I am "home", are often also spent on the road, hiking or kayaking. I hope to present a website that describes my travel along with my hiking and sea kayaking experiences.
