Beginning in Slocan City, this trail follows the old highway that connected Slocan City with Silverton and New Denver. It follows the east shore of Slocan Lake and ends at Highway 6 above. Return the same way.
Rating: *** Easy walk on historic highway with great views.
Difficulty: A1 easy
Distance: 2 km one way
Elevation: 377 m
Time: .5 to 1 hour
Drive: In Slocan City, take Slocan Street north to the east side of the defunct lumber mill. Park. The start is less than a km from the town’s campground and swimming beach.
Trail/Route: Walk along the old, paved road that follows under the Slocan Lakes Bluffs Rock Climbing area. There are about 80 routes along the 1 kilometre section of road. This must be one of the shortest approaches to any rock climbing area in BC. The local guidebook states: “It’s probably one of the only areas in British Columbia that’s wheelchair accessible.”
This is a pleasant walk on old hard top with a gentle grade. There are a few sections of large boulders to climb around and an old tunnel that finally collapsed.
There are great views of Slocan Lake and the Valhalla Range to the west. Bicycle-friendly, but you need to carry your bike around the rockfall obstacles.
