BRISTLECONE PINE

What’s the oldest tree on Earth—and will it survive climate change?

Bristlecone pines in the western U.S. have been alive for nearly 5,000 years, but an upstart Patagonian cypress challenges that record.

This 1,400-year-old bristlecone pine on Mount Washington in Nevada’s Great Basin National Park is so iconic its image is stamped on the back of some U.S. quarters. I would like to think of myself as a full time traveler. I have been retired since 2006 and in that time have traveled every winter for four to seven months. The months that I am "home", are often also spent on the road, hiking or kayaking. I hope to present a website that describes my travel along with my hiking and sea kayaking experiences.
