MOUNT ROBERTS

MOUNT ROBERTS   1995m   6545′
A Canadian flag is raised on the summit every Canada Day. This tradition was started on the Canadian Centenary in 1967 by Hutch Hutchinson and Leo Telfer. Mt Roberts has panoramic views of Rossland – but the hike is almost as much a scramble as a hike.

Location: West of Rossland off the Cascade Highway. The summit and flag are visible from downtown Rossland.
Difficulty: C2
Elevation gain: 862m (2,830′)
Key elevations: TH 920m (3020′); Summit 1995m (6545′)
Distance: 4.3km one-way
Time: 2-3 hours up
Access: Any vehicle
Season: June through October
Map: 82F/4 Trail

Drive: From the Rossland Museum and the weigh scales, at .4km, turn right onto the Cascade Highway and drive 1.7 km. Park on the road.

Trail: Start on the old logging road (West Little Sheep Rd). The trail takes off the road ascending steeply up a few switchbacks, then basically becomes a fall-line trail scrambling over rocks up the east side of the mountain.

I would like to think of myself as a full time traveler. I have been retired since 2006 and in that time have traveled every winter for four to seven months. The months that I am "home", are often also spent on the road, hiking or kayaking. I hope to present a website that describes my travel along with my hiking and sea kayaking experiences.
