HAMIE DOES FARNHAM by Kim Kratky
Long-time KMC member Hamish Mutch achieved a noteworthy goal on August 7th of this year when he climbed Mt. Farnham in the Horsethief Creek/Lake of the Hanging Glacier area of the Purcells. The ascent of Farnham marked the completion of his plan to climb all 17 peaks in the Interior Ranges of BC that are over 11,000′ in elevation. Hamish may be only the second person to have accomplished this feat; the first was Don Forrest, who did it about five years ago. Hamie and I gained the summit in six hours from a camp at treeline and spent an hour and a quarter savouring the fine weather and views from the top–a stark contrast to his two or three other attempts on Farnham when he was weathered off.
